The Global Fund for Community Foundations is the only organisation promoting and building community philanthropy on a global scale. They stand to promote people-led development underpinned by the belief that local people know what they want and need best. Our challenge was to enhance their presence and activity online – first by creating a brand and identity, and second by designing and building a website.
Exploring options and creating solutions is seriously fun and we always start with the sketchpad. For GFCF, we needed to convey their central role in a field where complex interwoven connections and relationships help drive the bigger picture of a new, people-led approach to development.
Our clients play an active role in how our ideas develop. We want their opinions at every step because we know that it is only with them that we can dig deeper, to bring the key elements of their identity to the fore. We interrogate and refine the strongest concepts to arrive at an identity they can be proud of – one that truly tells their story.
With direct involvement from the GFCF we digitised the concept that spoke to them most – that of global, human connection.
The GFCF approached us with a desire to revamp their existing identity, which was disconnected from and failed to support the work they do. The task was not to dismantle what existed altogether, but rather remodel it to make it relevant and work harder for them
For the consistent application of the brand, we supplied a comprehensive toolkit, including brand guidelines for visual decision-making, templates for annual reports and a logo toolkit.
The GFCF website is the primary application of the new brand. The GFCF needed an online hub to display news stories and resources from the philanthropy space, and evoke conversation with other actors in the field.
From design to prototype to development, our websites are all grounded by a site structure that prioritises the end-user.
It is a platform that celebrates the humanity at the core of the GFCF’s work through dominant photography from the field, combined with an earthy colour palette.
Over the last year, we undertook a significant review of our branding and external communications, leading to a new logo, brand guidelines, and website. Together Creative, who we had been working with for many years prior, “held our hands” through this process: making creative suggestions and thinking through the technical implications, while regularly incorporating our feedback. They are efficient and professional, and have a particular knack for explaining more complicated technical aspects of the work in understandable terms. It was a pleasure working with them, and we’re most pleased with the final results!
